Tempted by new bike

I am toying with the idea of getting a new bike, something that will be quicker and ligether than my existing carerra TDF. Whilst looking around I have noticed that there are some bikes with decent discounts around at the minute.

In all honesty I do not know what I am looking for in a new bike. Most of my rides will be a 10 mile each way commute to work via country lanes and a 20+ weekend ride. I tend to be quite competitive with myself and try to push myself as often as I can.

Any opinions on these two bikes or any suggestions?

Cannondale if a 56cm is right for you?

Do you need to add a rack and mudguards, can be challenging on a carbon frame

I currently ride a 54cm frame and was measure at 53cm yesterday.

I won't ever use mudguards or a rack

53cm for what bike though, they all vary

It was at my local trek store, said my frame size should be a 52 but if I'm used to a 54...

Didn't they have anything that appealed? You'll need to compare the geometries as all are not the same

They wanted me to choose a bike before they would set it up to try out, didn't seem overly keen to do it all so I walked away.
