I think I have been using road terminology incorrectly. I have never driven in this country, and I have been abroad for most of the past thirty years, including all of the past twenty. So some excuse.
I have been calling the bit of the road near the pavement the "inside" and the bit in the middle the "outside"...so when I say "filtering down the outside" I mean down the right hand side of the line, and "inside" when I mean down the left of the traffic.
But now I see "outside", "offside" and "nearside" used...and I think I have it wrong. What is the correct usage? My instinct is to visualise the lane near the pavement when I hear "nearside" and the one towards the middle of the road when I hear "Outside". And I do not know what "offside" means.
