Another incident today

Driver pulls out of a British Gas office (this has happened before) just in front of me....

Question...........crash in back of car or go for the gap ? ........

Went for the gap............ looked in and the female driver is bloody texting away...FFS.....

She eventually put the thing down. Certainly didn't come near me after that, and turned off or I would have bent her ear......

Slightly off topic but coming into work this morning the bike ahead of me was drifting out to the middle of the road with bikes and cars coming the other way. When I started to overtake him I couldn't believe my eyes because he was texting on his mobile. I said to him "that's a foolish thing to be doing on a bike" or words to that effect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've tried the "Get off the phone" shout too... sometimes it works ... I wish there was a way for normal folk (not police) to help with monitoring this. Unless the police are there and see and do anything they just carry on. I think the penalties have to be so much greater so that even if the risk of getting caught is low that it is not worth it.

Not a day goes by when I see someone with a phone in there hand driving. Had one the other day I walk in front off them while crossing the road (they were waiting at junction). I indicated they shouldn't be on the phone. Response: Laugh and continue?

It will continue this way until the penalties for doing it are severe enough (having the vehicle crushed within the hour springs to mind) that even the most selfish law-breaking motorist gives it up as a bad idea.

Texting and talking on mobiles by motons seems to be a normal daily occurrence now.

Anyone in London can report texters/talkers on
http://www.met.police.uk/roadsafelondon/

There's a form which will take 5 mins to fill out, and they are very keen to get people sending reports. I have about 8 reports with them now, and am getting one a day, sometimes two (doing wonders for my short-term memory as I memorise the numberplate).

There are other such scheme around the country.

I had a look at the link you posted (not that I'm London based) but it didn't seem to highlight being on a mobile phone ... and for that I thought they had to be witnessed on the phone by a policeman - unless they were actually involved in an accident - at which time they check the phone records.
