Hello james I'm also from tickenham area and have some very pleasant experiences with cyclists and unpleasant ones with potholes, I was riding around Kingston Seymour when I first got my bike last year and got a puncture and as I began my walk home a lovely chap pulled over on his bike and offered me a inner tube and pump and declined but it's tge thought that counts .
There have been some cracking potholes in the Tickenham area this winter, think I have most of them on my radar now.

I've had someone stop and give me their whole puncture repair kit, pump and all before after I'd gone over a drain and burst my tyre - they were in a rush and so left it all with me! Saved me being late and missing my train, so massive props to them! I took their phone number then went and delivered it back to their house the next day.

Gone out and bought my own kit since then to carry round so I can pass it on too... one day!!

I was once in Northern China near the town of Qinhuangdao when it was raining heavily and had a puncture. I stopped to change the tube and a school girl who was walking up the road stopped and held an umberella over me until I had finished doing the repair. When I went to ride off after saying thankyou (in Chinese) she gave a big smile and then waved goodbye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A new level !

I'd love to bump into some of you folks on a ride, although I'm setting myself up slowly to be self sufficient on my bike, if I ever had an issue, it'd be nice to be able to have someone offer help.

I did once, on the first bike, have the rear axle snap, I thought the wheel hadn't been put on by the LBS properly (stupid thought, as I trust them 100%), but asked a couple who'd just arrived home from work, if they had any spanners. Wrenched the nuts a bit, only to find it was the axle. Had to walk 1.5 mile home, uphill, on a very cold night, which wouldn't have been bad if I were riding!

The axle broke due to a nasty pothole, I'd ridden over at speed and didn't think much of it at first. Soon learnt how to dodge them after that.
