My LD-1100 came off today. Then a WVM stopped his van in front of where it had fallen, so I could come back and retrieve the bits! That was nice, I thought.

It still works too, even though it came apart.

I had one fall off due to a broken aluminum mounting bracket. Saved the light, though, and made a new bracket from strap steel. No more problems with it.

Once had a good (expensive) headlamp fall out of the bracket, and I ran over it, myself! Fortunately, I was able to repair it.

I saw one fall from the back of a cyclist about 50 metres in front of me once. It was still working, so I stopped and retrieved it, then managed to catch them up at the traffic lights and return it.

Never lost one of my own, fortunately.

Nearly had a lost light today.

Put my BLT on my bars but over the handlebar tape, to give me a cateye on the right, BLT on the left and a flashing rechargeable light bolted to the right fork lowrider boss.

Jumped up a slightly raised kerb (courtesy of those wonderful cycle paths) and suddenly ended up dazzled by my own front light having swung around the bars and the rubber strap catching on the brake cable.

Full marks to the BLT's rubber strap loosening but not completely detaching though

Oh I forgot...I lost my Fenix during a monsoon in Bangkok....I knew it fell off but I just couldn't find the bugger. You'd think it would be easy due to the brightness of the same.

this reminds me of years ago when i was traveling to work on an old moped. one of the old Honda vision things with a wire basket on the front (yes, i know, but i borrowed it from my mum and it was only temporary).

i hit a pot hole in the road and my rucksack shot out of the basket, flew onto the road in front of me and i rode over it !!!!

turned around to retrieve it and found then my classes had fallen out of the bag and were now squashed flat on the road. not sure if i flattened them or it was one of the cars behind me

quite funny but very expensive.

lost a rear light in the snow last month and never found it. didnt realise it had gone till i was at work, luckily i have two others fitted other wise I'd have been un-lit in the dark country roads xx(

I had an Ever-Ready moment a few weeks ago with my rear Dinotte. I'd taken to velcro-ing the battery pack to the saddle rails. Damn thing came open and my batteries ended up in the road. Had to try and find them in the snow (got them all!)

Second time that's happened. Last time a truck flattened them.

Other things flattened by vehicles: a pump, sunglasses, numerous crappy lights.

this story would be even better if you now tell us the rider was bradley wiggins on a training run!

I parted company with my mirror on my Friday morning commute in the dark on the Surrey Canal Tow Path. I didn't realise what had happened until later, I thought I had ridden through a load of glass as I didn't hear a bang as it came off just a load of crackling.

I looked on the way home but couldn't find it so its replacement time!!

Probably a bit late now, but didn't you think about claiming on you house contents insurance ? I have claimed twice for damage to my glasses now. Once when I got hit in the face by a baseball and a year ago I got a nasty chip in one lens. Got paid straight away, no quibble.
