Well it looks like I am going to have to put my cycling clobber away, for good, a few months ago I started to feel a little ill, just every now and again but never really gave it much thought, then over the months I was becoming tired and breathless very easy, so off I went to my GP on Monday, I explained everything in detail, and she did a few tests like BP, oxygen level and then the funny bit was she put me on the ECG.

She asked lots of questions about things that had happened only a couple of years ago, one of which was a really bad attack of heartburn, which I could just remember about 18 months ago, anyway she sent me straight to the hospital for a chest X ray and my bloods taken, I went for these doing yesterday as I was going to work on Monday, 20 minutes after I had left hospital yesterday I got a phonecall whilst me and Babytiger were out shopping, it was my GP, She spoke of a few things but didnt want to go into too much detail over the phone, but I am now on the rapid response cardiac list? And it seems my heart burn was ptobably a mild heart attack, and the symptoms I now have are all symptoms of heart problems, she couldnt stress enough, if I feel slightly ill in any way I must dial 999 straight away, and must not wait, it has to be done the moment I feel ill, which is rather worrying, I wont be coming on here as much from now on, it will only make me want to go ride, but I will pop back every now and again to let you know how things are so safe riding all, inc those whom I didn't see eye to eye with.

Take care DM and please do keep us updated :hugs:

Best of luck and I sincerely hope everything works out long term:cheers:

Don't panic!

Your immediate reaction is a normal one.

I too suffer and have suffered some very serious heart problems. I still cycle and am doing 50-60 miles a week.

Did they give you any indication of what your problems are? Plumbing or Electrics?

One thing you must know is you are not alone and there is a future and you probably will be back on your bike soon !

Thanks Smokey, and no Colin they are waiting for all the results now, I think it was more shock at the phonecall 20 minutes after I left the hospital, from my GP that worried me so much, I didnt think results got back that quick, also the urgency in her voice when she told me I must dial 999 if I even feel slightly ill? Just seemed a strange thing to say, after she didnt want to go into detail on the phone, but thanks for the reassurance, I guess I will just have to see what happens from now on.

Scary. And your concern is totally understandable. But as others have said, I wouldn't leap to any conclusions just yet. Play it by ear, talk to your doctor, google around, use this and other sites to compare notes. Heart problems are obviously a major issue...but other things being equal, regular exercise is still a good idea. You might have to lay off the alpine climbs, but I wouldn't assume your cycling days are over just yet. Good luck, hope it turns out ok.

Thanks and which one.....?
Nah. Not really. You're going to need them.

Bad news DM. I'm sure the docs will get to the bottom of it quickly and put things back on track. There are quite a few round here whos tickers have played up at one time or another and they all manage it well. Good luck.
