Just spent the scariest hour or so on the road. Cubester and I had been over to Pickering for a day's shooting. It was lovely and spectacular in the villages of Lockton and Levisham, as we were treated to a few snow showers. However, as we left Pickering and started down the A64 towards York it started to really snow heavily. Cars coming toards us had thick snow on the bonnets and our lane of traffic slowed to a virtual halt. The snow was settling as fast as the car tyres could clear it, and eventually the snow won. As we crawled towards Whitwell on the Hill on the dual carriageway section things literally ground to a halt.
By this time there must have been three inches of wet snow across both lanes, and of course many cars were really struggling. Any sort of gradient and the cars were in trouble, some unable to climb the hills, others breaking away on the way down them.
Scary. It didn't get any easier until we were near Tadcaster. It snows like mad up here in Scapegoat Hill at the drop of a hat, but I can't ever remember being in conditions that difficult for a long long time.
