Just spent the scariest hour or so on the road. Cubester and I had been over to Pickering for a day's shooting. It was lovely and spectacular in the villages of Lockton and Levisham, as we were treated to a few snow showers. However, as we left Pickering and started down the A64 towards York it started to really snow heavily. Cars coming toards us had thick snow on the bonnets and our lane of traffic slowed to a virtual halt. The snow was settling as fast as the car tyres could clear it, and eventually the snow won. As we crawled towards Whitwell on the Hill on the dual carriageway section things literally ground to a halt.

By this time there must have been three inches of wet snow across both lanes, and of course many cars were really struggling. Any sort of gradient and the cars were in trouble, some unable to climb the hills, others breaking away on the way down them.

Scary. It didn't get any easier until we were near Tadcaster. It snows like mad up here in Scapegoat Hill at the drop of a hat, but I can't ever remember being in conditions that difficult for a long long time.

have a look here at some of our pictures.............

We were desperate to get out in it.

Good stuff, keep meaning to take Wigs Jnr to his first clay shoot (he's 9 now), but the last few months everytime we plan to go something crops up and we have to cancel.:evil:

Cubester had a first lesson last Monday. A mate of mine has a 28g, I have a 20g and Tony found some really kind 21g cartridges for it. Cubester was soon hitting a lazy incomer with the 28g, then tried the light shells in my 20 and couldn't miss. He soon found his way into a straight away target. A few more lessons and I'll let him share a gun with me at Lockton on a straightforward drive. (But I reckon he'll realise he's better off earning £20 beating than standing next to me !!!)

It did come down hard for a bit in York, but we've got no more than an inch or so settled, from the look of it. (I've not been out yet, reckon I might venture out later for a takeaway!)

(I had a reheated portion of the pheasant last night - still delicious, if a little thin because I sloshed a little too much water in to stop it sticking in the pan. Still, it mingled nicely with the mash...)

Had another overnight fall of snow, perhaps another 2 inches between 1st and 2nd, tehn another evening of heavy snowfall yesterday. Will try to get out with the camera this afternoon as the sun's shining. No sign of a thaw yet!
