Reminiscing on old hi-fi is fab, but thanks to a small personal bonus I have decided that Hi- Fi investment is some 20+ years overdue.

My old Rogers Studio 1a’s and Audiolab 8000A combo are dead. The Thorens TD160/SME II will get a refurb and the Arcam alpha 7se Cd will remain for the forseable.

My plan is as follows. Build a pair of IPL acoustic M1TLm. Transmission line speakers and fnd a suitable amp ro drive them.

Budget is circa £500 for the amp:
British preferred.
Defeatable tone controls preferred.
Phono input
I am drawn towards NAD, Arcam and possibly Cambridge.

Room is small so mighty power not required (as long as will drive TL’s), 20w pure class A more sensible than 60w a/b or other amplification variants.

Any others I should think about?

I've got a TD160, bought it secondhand in 1984 and it's still going strong.

(Definitely more my taste than yours…must buy it some time…)

I bought a Bose SoundTouch 30. It links to a Spotify account. The sound, to me, is great and it just works really well.

I had a Bose system in one of my cars, best audio system I've had in a car.
It’s awesome. I just press button 5 on top of it and it randomly plays some 30 hours of 80s classics!
