The bathroom is coming together...

Over the half way point in the bathroom refurb.

New loo pan fitted a few weeks ago, followed by a new flush mechanism. All the tiles have been pulled off, bath has been turned 180 degrees (wife's preference), re-plumbed in with new quarter turns ceramic bearing taps. Tiled 80% of the walls! with a few tricky cuts using a wet cutter for getting round an extractor fan and switch (cut two squares out of the middle of a large tile - great gadget). Removed and fitted a new electric shower, and now refitted the shower screen.

Slight drip from around the taps/bath seal which has been sealed.

Tomorrow is ensure the shower area is grouted and dry for two mucky kids coming back from Scout camp on Monday.

Final jobs will be around the pipes at the back of the sink and loo, followed by a new bath panel that will be tiled, once I am happy there are no leaks. Then a new laminate floor. Been a busy few weeks.

The plumber never got back to us with a quote, so I used the John Guest quick fit plumbing. It's great stuff.

Did my bathroom myself also but made one mistake with plumbing in the shower which was I connected the shower with a plastic fitment instead of metal, apparently if you use a plastic one it can come off and flood the house

I hate tiling. Dirty, fiddly, noisy job. Mingin.

Currently doing four bathrooms plus a guest toilet in a the house we are building here, all fully tiled. Our tiler has so far spent three weeks with one bathroom still to go, but the good bit is he only charges a very modest rate.

Off to China Town now for a spot of tea. Think I deserve it...

Tea in town was cracking - Soup, dim sum, crispy duck then 3 mains was £22 per person at the New Emperor in China Town. Lovely food.

Back to the job, the original tiles were fitted with spat and stick - i.e. very little adhesive. About 70% came off great, apart from the ones I re-stuck on a few years back.

Most of the tiling is now done, shower and shower screen sealed in, so tomorrow's job is grouting.

We went to a big tile merchants, and there were hundreds of types of grout. The kids found some glittery grout, but the chap said it's a fortune, and it's cheaper for you to buy the base colour and get your own glitter from a craft store, so we did. Cream coloured grout, with glittery bits is now mixed ready to go on.

Had a mare with the bath taps, kept getting water seeping through around the tap as the bath holes were quite large and the seal didn't quite fit. Eventually found some extra seals, fitted under the bath, but what a faff, absolutely no room to work, cue some fruity language.

Ran out of 'powdered' adhesive we got from the tiling place, so picked up some Mapei adhesive - my god it was crap - absolutely no adhesion - kept falling off the wall. That's going back. As we only had a few more tiles to do, bought ready mixed adhesive, that works. The Mapei said quick dry but wall and floor, maybe it's not as grippy.

Grouting tomorrow, for the kids to get the bathroom filthy after 3 days at scout camp !!!

How did you remove the tiles? I have do our bathroom this year & I have tiles on top of another layer of tiles, maybe another, who knows?
