Was cycling home last night and realised there are certain parts of my commute home I look forward to all day.

The thrill of flying past all the gridlocked vehicles in the dark, as I come up through Annesley, flying down Mutton Hill at over 30mph, the beautiful serene darkness in the middle of nowhere, miles from any road or civilisation, with only the occasional owl playing chicken with me for company (and frightening the life out of me), and the very best part, when I come out on the pit top, in complete darkness but with the street lights of Mansfield shining brightly below me in the distance, also an indication I'm only 60 seconds from home

What parts of your "regular" commute do you look forward to the most?

About 6 miles into my 12 mile commute; I have a plateau of around 500 metres between two villages. There is no house and rarely any cars. I can only hear the tyre hum and the gentle whirr of my pedals.

The best thing about this section is that I’ve finished almost all of my climbing (over 700 feet) and it’s largely downhill thereafter.

The race track that is the A21 in SE London. Can get some great speeds in both directions. Plenty of bus lanes too.

The only bit i can say is good is when i set off and see gridlock the majority of my route there and back.Other than that there is no real scenery to boast about except for a squidge near home which looks good in the mist !

My ride in's just dreadful!

I've been off the commute for quite some time, but I'm going to get back on soon.
Looking at these pictures makes me wish for spring!

That sort of scenery would make me want to skip work every day and keep going !! Nice

Getting there, after 17 miles each way, getting to work and then getting home still amazes me, how I do it every day come rain or shine, the sense of achievement is still great

My off road route is very pleasant, the on road is usual suburbia (it's never I direction I go when out training - I head for Cheshire or the Hills).

Off road route can be virtually all greenery and follows the river - no traffic - very surprising !!

There isnt really a best bit of my commute through SE London... unless the Greenwich tunnel is closed in which case crossing the river by ferry can be quite picturesque, especially if there is a sunrise/set.

But as work is stressing me out at little at the moment I do find the whole journey particularly worthwhile and a much needed source of relaxation

My best bit is about three miles through Mottram St Andrew from Macclesfield to Wilmslow, all down hill fast, beautiful countryside and very few cars even at rush hour.
