,There was a world boxing title fight on Saturday night but I hadn't heard of the boxers Its sad that boxing has become such an anonymous sport along with cricket.!,At one time world title fights were national events but now hardly register a mention in the sport news.
Anyway Carl Frampton won the title in front of 16000 fans in Belfast and hope he gets due recognition.

85 world titles I believe , so must be at least one world title fight a week somewhere in the world !

World champion boxers are like number one in the chart records! Once of a day you knew who was the world champ' in most weights and who was number one in the charts. Now we have no idea about either!

The Frampton fight was big news in Belfast as there were huge parallels between him and his promoter, Barry McGuigan. He is getting a civic reception at Belfast City Hall and met the First Minister yesterday. But since boxing fell off the terrestrial TV channels it really has become a niche sport. Even Sky Sports has relegated it and the majority of fights are now on a channel called Box Nation.
So while Frampton may not get the adulation of his predecessors he is doing allright here at home.

Frampton is managed by Barry McGuigan. They had to build a temporary stadium for the 16,000, as there wasnt anywhere big enough.
The sad thing is that Frampton is just as good as McGuigan, but when he won his fight in Belfast over 20 million people watched it on the TV.
Boxing isnt on BBC anymore, and you have to pay an extra £20 to watch it on Sky. It is sad but without the TV recognition he will never be as famous as Barry.

Judging by the paper I see when I'm waiting for my food at the local takeaway, "Sport" now = Football, and the tedious goings on in the personal lives of those involved in that activity.

Even splendid activities like cricket are now reclassified "Other Sport", which is where, I suspect, you may find boxing.
