I have had a week off of the bike (due to a physical failure on my part…squished my elbow on the squash court!)As a result I had to check in at the quack's for a bit of a sign off (the elbow is still a tiny bit swollen).Doc said it was fine to undertake some physical activity (ooer:blush:) and I was looking forward to riding chitty in tomorrow.

But, halfway back toward my house from the surgery I was struck by what a great day it was, no wind, clear blue sky, dry, sunny almost warm…..

I went upstairs, dusted off my riding gear (even stretched to putting on my bibs and overshoes as it was still a little chilly) and off I went.

It was the best ride in I have had since the summer, warm, quiet, no wind, no rain, loads of sun and generally a whole different type of driver on the road (10.00). I took a little longer than usual as I took in some sights along the way (changing of the guard) and stopped for a latte in Hyde Park!

All I can tell you is, I feel totally fantastic and am ready to put in a lot of effort today (so you wont see me on here I reckon) when, at this time of year, I would usually be winding down!!

So, the cure is…if you can (and I know some will not have this flexibility…if so…just lie!!)

1. Take a rest. Stop using the bike for a day or so, suffer public transport and remind yourself what a chore it is.
2. Check the weather report for tomorrow or the next day…find a day that is due to be "bright and dry"
3. Talk to your manager, boss, Director or business partner and get an hour off of work (and I know some will not have this flexibility…if so…just lie and do the phantom dentist/doctor thing!!) for the morning of that day.
4. Take your time, wait for the sun to come up and the traffic to die down, let it get warm and set off.

Worked for me…...I am literally full of beans and could easily face a few more days of dark, cold rain off the back of the ride in today.

Right, on with that work.

See you tomorrow.

PS...best thing of all.....it was so bright and sunny, I had to wear SUNNIES!!;) .....yay!!!

Just hit the road again after 2 weeks off the bike myself (wrenched shoulder)

Couldn't agree more with your sentiments. I enjoyed the time to read on the train, but my god, do I enjoy being at work in 20 minutes rather than 60, and my time is totally my own, not the damn train company's.

+1 for a "cycling break"

This is not a new thing.

It's called "Throwing a sickie".

Dangerous if you are involved in an incident ( Hospital ), cus you were somewhere you shouldn't have been.

for clarity, I'm not just suggesting a break, im suggesting a change in journey time to a quiet, less congested. Brighter, lighter time of day.

Thanks
