Each reply contains one line of the song. It doesn't have to rhyme or even scan, or even be in bars.

Just use this to chose your notes: http://www.virtualpiano.net/ (it only goes down to the octaves above and below bottom C and top C, respectively ... I think!).

And use the following notation for each note:

NT.L, where N is the note name, T is the octave from 1-7(1 is the octave starting at bottom C on a piano) and L is the reciprocal of the note length.

E.g.:
C4.1 = middle C, semibreve
C4.2 = middle C, minim
C4.4 = middle C, crotchet
etc ...
And "R.L" is a rest (e.g. "R.1").

Put the words over the notes, use the underscore as a space and use Courier New as your font seeing as it is monospaced, that way the words line up with the notes.

Got it? Simples! :thumbsup:

I'll start:

Cy-__cle__Chat,_Cy-__cle__Chat,_Oh!__Cy-__cle__Chat!
E4.4_D4.4_F4.2__E4.4_D4.4_F4.4__A4.4_C4.4_C4.4_C4.2

I think that chords will be too difficult without an actual stave.

Perhaps when we have enough lines then someone with a musical instrument can sing and record it and upload it to YouTube. I am hoping that it will sound utterly ridiculous. ^_^

Next line please (Trust me, my system is easy! You'll get the hang of it after an hour of smashing at the keyboard and crying!) ...

Or you could just think "sod that" and do something worthwhile with that hour, such as getting a bowl of cereal, making another coffee, trimming your toenails or perming your eyebrows, depending on personal preference.

It's not that difficult - indeed, I'm currently working on a 2-byte hexidecimal system for indexing chords too. It'll be a bit like writing Machine Language, really.

(I'll get my coat ...)

Seriously, you really need to get out more. :eek:
