Clocks go back this Sunday so next week will be the first(since spring) commute home in the dark, although lighter in the mornings for a couple of weeks.

Also now less than two months until the winter equinox solstice and the shortest day, then the days start getting longer:smile:

I've never understood why it's less than 2 months before the solstice (presume your equinox was a slip!) but more than 3 months after it before we're allowed back out of the gloom again.

I'm part way through updating the dynamo lighting on my round-town bike, so better get it finished fast.

.
It is odd, but we get 5 months of GMT and 7 of BST, so dont complain.

Back in the early 70s we had 12 months of BST for several years. Much better. Got cancelled to keep a few farmers in the Shetlands happy.

I'd like to see us move to CET but gave up hope years ago.

Oops, especially as equinox basically has equal at the start, as in equal day/night.

It was cancelled as there was a newspaper campaign about children walking to school in the morning in the dark and it being dangerous.
As usual the newspaper’s ignored the truth that drivers are more awake in the morning - so it is safer for children to walk to school in the dark in the morning, than coming home in the twilight/darkness in the afternoon.
+ 1 for CET – imagine the late evening rides in the summer.

I'm not sure it will make much difference with the weather we've had this week. It's been like midnight all day!

Working nights I've been cycling to work in the dark, and home in the dark for a while now.

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to Trafalgar Sq in the dark. Given i take voluntary redundancy on 30/11 it won't take more than one near miss to have the bike retire before I do.
