No matter how old or fast they are, a car is still only an inanimate chunk of metal which only serves you to become fatter and less fit. It DOESN'T LOVE YOU.

A dog on the other hand is a living breathing animal which will love you forever, and which keeps you fit by taking you for walks. Not only that, but with a dog you discover new places which you had no reason to go to or know about before. You see so much more of an area with a dog than you ever would with a car or, dare I say it, probably a b*ke.

Nope, sell you car and get some Huskies to pull you around on a cart/sledge!:becool:

A car automatically makes us fat and less fit?

I must remember next time im going 300 miles to cycle instead, just incase I get fat... etc etc etc

And having a car means we cannot also have a dog and walk it to keep fit?

Some of us go walking, even without a dog - so a dog doesn't automatically equal discovery either, all it does is make walking a requirement, so you could say dogs are for people too lazy to walk on their own accord? ;)

As you say, a car is an inanimate object, it cannot make you fatter or less fit, only your choices can do that.

As to the whole carbon footprint thing, unless we have some major breakdown in society, Mad Max style, we are going to remain reliant on goods that are imported and exported. If we do have a Mad Max style melt down then maybe we'll have a chance to return to local small scale produce, and living off what we can grow, rear or hunt for ourselves and feeding our dogs the scraps while using the convertible as a novelty vegetable plot.

 Sorry, sweeping generalisation there. I meant that it generally does with the population.

'A car runs on money and makes you fat, a bike runs on fat and saves you money'. I'll have to think up one for a dog.

To be fair, I WANT to walk, and when I don't have the dog with me, it feels as though I've forgotten something.

The discovery thing wasn't becuase I never walked before having a dog, quite the opposite, but because I suddenly found myself in obscure places where the dog wanted to go instead of myself, and also a dog doesn't just walk in a straight line down the road like the average human, a dog is a bike like an Autistic kid who wanders anywhere and everywhere, devoid of predjudice. If you just let it take you, it can be quite interesting or intrigueing (but also deadly dull, if it is a tour of every lamp post, tree and blade of grass in town!).

I am not saying I just let the dog take me where it wants all the time, but once you have a 'Canine Magical Mystery Tour' a few times, you start to see what other obscure places there are out there purely out of curiosity. I mean, you do end going to places were the average walker (or indeed normal person) would have no real reason to be, and I like that. I have discovered many out of the way places I didn't even know existed just in my local area which, even if I walked about without a dog, I probably wouldn't see or at least know about in quite the same way.

Before I had a dog, I'd have walked along roads and paths as a pose to going on a cross country wander with invisible scent markers leading the way (for the dog I might add).
so you could say dogs are for people too lazy to walk on their own accord? ;)

Except for the people who take their dog in a car somewhere and then just let it run about whilst they stay at the car.
