Just a month until the shortest day, then the days start getting longer again

Going by previous winters, end of February will be the end of the dark commutes home and by mid-March the morning commutes will be in daylight.

21st December is the shortest day, but not the darkest morning or evening.

The darkest evening is 12th December (15.51hrs), whilst the darkest morning is 29th December.(0806hrs)

By comparison, today, the sunrise / sunset is 07.29hrs / 16.04 hrs, so it wont get much darker at night but it will get considerable darker in the mornings, and wont start to get lighter until the end of the year.

We should be back to about where we are now by 7th February 2014.

I'm glad someone else thinks like me. Whenever I say this to SWMBO I get a pained look and an exasperated comment that Jan and Feb are always colder/more miserable!
