The frustration of sofa buying

We are looking for a leather sofa, in the process I have become an expert on leather. However, finding one is another thing altogether without paying several thousand pounds, or discovering it was made in China or the frame is softwood or the leather is in fact bonded leather..........I could go on. Anyone had a similar experience? Any recommendations?

John Lewis Madison range. Over £1000 per sofa, but much cheaper than some.
The leather looks a little worn when it arrives - not actually 'distressed', but not far off. But that was what we wanted - didn't want a shiny looking thing in our living room!

(Why would it matter if the frame was softwood?)

OK, ours isn't leather, but a silk material, it lasted best part of 20 years abuse, 3 kids, and one dog (which eventually ate a hole in one arm off the sofa). So we were going to buy a new sofa. Long story short, we couldn't find anything that fitted the bill, (apart from a new Duresta) so we had it re-upholstered (and the arm repaired), original cushions, frame et al and it's like new for another 20 years.
The original build quality is so good it can be recovered and recovered as time goes by .....
In leather they should last a lifetime ....

If you want your sofa given a good refurb and you live in the Leeds area, our @colly could be the man to consult! (I assume that you are still doing that for a living, colly?)

PS Send the cheque to the usual address!

Dont buy from Natuzzi. We had one from them, first the foam in the seats snak within a few months and the replacement came in the wrong colour. In the end we got our money back, but it was hard work. In the end we found a local company that made them to your spec. and they were cheaper!

Always quite fancied one of the Robin Day sofas from Shabitat.

Got my leather 3 seater and 2 seater from Harveys. One has a recliner and I've had it 7 years and its fine. Think the two together cost me somewhere in the region of £1500.
