The future of Christmas

I am in a chapel (my house now) and just watched Carols from King's with wifey. I rather see Chritmas as a cheery light to mark the half way point in the dark and cold winter. That is worth celebrating and although the original message will be lost overall we do tend to look to others and see our families over Christmas which I think and hope will continue.

the belief is that he died once, at easter, the bible holds no record of a second death, however does hold a couple of accounts of him rising up to heaven.

No worries about offending, It is very much a case of each to their own, I'll celebrate Christmas in my way and you are free to celebrate in your own - we may even meet for drinks in the middle, you never know.

I think 'Christmas' will survive if for no other reason than @bicyclos said there are massive commercial pressures for it to do so.

As for a Christian celebration of Christmas, possibly it will be maintained and developed more within the christian community and will be less and less apparent outside it. The commercial side will give a passing nod only in so far as it promotes profit.
Who knows maybe Christianity will be resurgent and rank commercialism will be pegged back. Unlikely though.

Depends on the future direction of society, if we are headed for a dystopian future then the church will probably become more relevant no wholly for its religious message but for the good it (sometimes) does. Churches tend to fill in times of war.

It's a "pastor". It's a free evangelical church. The school is the school of cheap rhetoric.

Mildly OT, but I remember listening to a sermon at a wedding at a free evangelical church and hearing St John the Evangelist being described as "not much of a theologian".

CoG, I know of one school where this was discussed and it was found that non Christian pupils and parents on the whole enjoyed Christmas without being much bothered about the religious side of it.

The school my wife works at celebrates all major religious festivals.

Media's way of money making i say. Who knows maybe the Christmas will finally be seen as a religious event for some, and in war in 100 years we will be using sticks and stones!

Christmas will survive but will adapt to its current financial environment at the time like it always has, nowadays people will buy a ipad for few hundered quid but wont send cards as it costs too much, meanwhile kids go hungy at schools day in day out. We want everyhing now, give little bur Xmas will survive priorities ebb and flow though.
