Slightly OT,but out here I'm just about the only one on any of my regular runs that wears a helmet. However now that the colder (for here) weather has arrived I see some of the older ladies and men wearing cheap Motor cycle helmets when riding their bicyles, just to keep the head warm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is a race helmet designed for a specific purpose; light, well ventilated and meeting the standards imposed by UCI. It is not and never will be a 'general purpose' helmet aimed at the mass participant. It is like trying to compare a full on race bike with a hybrid commuter. It is apples and pears.

No!!!!!! Not another h**m*t debate!:ohmy::ohmy:

Actually that price-tag isn't really so outrageous is it? I remember, way back in the early days of h**m*ts in the 1980s/90s, when I used to wear the things, going into a LBS looking for a new one, I saw (sans price-ticket) a very snazzy-looking one in a race pattern, looked quite light and comfy. So I tried it on and announced, this'll do for me. They then told me, yes if you can afford it, then they told me the price. Way up in the £100s it was. ;)

I bought and wore a cheaper model for a while.

Some stunningly badly informed comments on the article at that link, but what did we expect boys and girls?

I liked the comment...

It does look like a tosser's cycle helmet, I should think we will see Cameron or Boris in one shortly
.

There is plenty of evidence to show that the promotion of any type of cycle helmet discourages people from cycling, apart from those with money to waste...

But, this is a race helmet and is an obligatory piece of the pro and amateur race cyclists' uniform.

Why should I ware a helmet, I've been cycling since I was 5, and never done anything to my head. The things that suffer the most are my knees.

Cycling isn't dangerous a helmet is going to do absolutism nothing if I'm hit by a car. Plus it seems to give stupid people the right to pass me to closely.

Tis about time people had to retake their driving test every 5 years. But before that they have to spend a few months using a bicycle to get round. That would stop close overtaking etc.

Yeah, strap in!!!!

So is it or is it not a safer helmet?

It's stylishly swishier, therefore giving you a superior feeling and allowing you to take a better position on the road at a faster pace due to it's superior cooling keeping your core temp down and decreased drag co-effecient. Suction forces created by the venting down draft will also allow you to corner faster and it affords greater visibility due to the sheer wow factor. So yes it's safer, buy one.
