I went to see the Human League in Edinburgh last night. I have to say it was a top notch performance. Musically they were spot on and there was stage presence aplenty. They played mostly what the people want and the new song 'Night People' sounded good on first hearing. If you like this sort of thing I would recommend getting a ticket if they are coming somewhere near you. Overall a very enjoyable evening :becool:

Got an album of theirs on my iPhone ... don't mind a bit of 80's synthpop.

Of course it's not just the music, it reminds you of different times. I'm soooo glad I still don't have some of the outfits I wore back then ... lol

Although I never had the right sort of hair to get the Phil-flick look ...

<Nips off to find Fade to Grey and other faves on the iPod ... >

absolutley brilliant live and would recomend anyone to go and see them !

Me too. Saw them once as part of an 80s concert at the NEC (with ABC, Culture Club, Spandau etc) and once on their own at the Wolves Civic. Fantastic on both occasions.

Ah, a different Human League - you're talking about half of Heaven 17 !

Actually, I think I preferred the instrumentals of this early stuff : Toyota City and Gordon's Gin are brilliant

Agree the 'The circus of death' is hilarious : 'A crow and a baby' is just bizarre...

And you've reminded me; the BEF version of 'These Boots Are Made for Walkin' is a stomper!! Vocals by Paula Yates and the Nancy Boys (Bob Geldof and Midge Ure!!)

Sadly, and obviously, not the same vocalist....

Odd how the once avant-garde (not that Heaven 17/BEF were) is now a cabaret... well, I guess cabaret is avant-garde by another name!... but you know what I mean.

Eeh the memories!... saw them in the summer of 1978 supporting The Stranglers in Sheffield, before they acquired the girls.

Hang on that's 32 years ago... shouldn't they all be really, really old by now [like me!]

I was only really into them up to the Dare album. On the night they did Being boiled and Empire State Human from the old stuff. Post-Dare: Keep Feeling Fascination, Mirror Man, Louise, The Lebanon and Electric Dreams as well as two or three brand new tracks.

I think Phil Oakey is 55 now. Photos from the gig can be seen here...
