Yes I can, Yes I am, Yes I did...Repeat.
Does anybody have a printer that actually does what it says on the tin??

[rant]

I have an HP C4480 and once again it is pants.

Like all of it's predecesors I have owned before it, from several manufacturers, this one has a mind of its own. Nothing lines up, the thing doesn't detect cartridges...then it does...then it doesn't....each time I switch it on it demands I print of a test page, which it can,t print because it's pants. If and when it finally does print anything it prints reams of blank pages first.

Oh and I haven't even mentioned the rip off cartridge prices yet...

Bah....life is to short....now where is my pen and paper....no wait out of paper 'cos the dam printer chewed it up.

Argggh!

Indeed. They are a pain.

If I have anything to print nowadays, I use the one at work and someone else maintains it for me:whistle:

Barnet,
I can sympathise with you and HP printers. The cost of HP cartridges is prohibative. The new one I got a couple of months back is wireless, the HP5520, I am new to this technology, and in need of some sort of training. Sometimes I can't get the thing to print, and then it prints several copies of the last job. Then the same as you, it chews the paper up, or sends blank paper through. Modern technology, bet this thing hardley ever went wrong. The Gestetner rotary copier.

I think I shall start making offerings to mine, possibly a sacrifice or two, as it has never caused me a moment's grief. My landlord gave it to me a couple of years ago instead of hurling it out of the window. He regularly asks me to print stuff for him as his new one is on a mission to get hurled out of the window.

HP ink is a rip-off.

I have had several Canons (small business) - my main advice would be never to buy the cheapest of any brand as they run out of ink before you can say knife. I find Canon pretty good.

I sit on a charitable grant-giving committee and we've just given a grant to a project whose proposal included a £39.95 printer - we said they could have the money on condition that they bought a better printer! (and we funded the difference, obvs).

Canon 6500. Other than running out of ink, 10,000 pages printed without any problems.
My only moan is the noise when starting up.

Go for one with seperate inks.

I have had HP, Epsom, Lexmark and Canon printers over the years but for the last 8 years I have only had Brother printers, fast very cheap to run at around £10 for a full set of factory inks which last me around a year, all our computers use it via wireless network (not wifi) it simply does exactly what it is supposed to do, no fuss no problems, current printer is an MFC - 5460CN had this one 3 years to replace the one I dropped.
