Well, he arrived in a flash. Long build up to Matt Smith leaving, quite emotional but somehow the episode fell short of expectations after the 50th anniversary.

Spoiler alert if you haven't seen it yet....:stop:

What are the chances of a tiny planet across the universe having a town on it called Christmas where it's inhabitants all look like they stepped out of a Christmas Carol?

Weeping Angels - getting bored with them now. I mean, how exactly do they travel??. They can't even look at each other let alone buy a ticket on a spaceship or hitch a ride...

Sending Clara back to Earth, like Rose at the end of series 1 felt a bit repetitive.

I did like the return of the 'reality crack', we found out who blew up the Tardis and it's apparent that if the Time Lords can send a message, they aren't frozen in a single moment as happened in the 50th. This ties in well with DT's last story, The End of Time, in which they were all trapped in a time lock which repeats itself like Groundhog Day. Obviously, the Doctor got his sums wrong.

Looking forward to seeing what Capaldi can do with it.

I think the writing definitely fell short last season.
I also think Capaldi will do a great job, it's like anything, we're going to have to get used to him first!

Stephen Moffat is capable of writing wonderfully convoluted time travel stories of mind-mangling complexity (I really enjoyed Blink in series 3) but does rather have some silly ideas. Two of the silliest are the Statue of Liberty really being a weeping angel (it must be looked at all the time plus you'd think someone would notice a massive thing like that suddenly missing) and the worst - big flying sharks in fog.

It is precisely because it is looked at all the time that it does not move.

that being said i am looking forward to seeing what they do with the doctor in the new one, but i would like to see some other writers get their stuff stuck in.

I agree it wouldn't move. But in the episode, you see it looming over the hotel where the Angels keep their time-displacement victims (rooftop scene).
:O somebody blinked!
