I have loved Jags from afar for as long as I can remember. I wanted one as a Kid and still love them 40 years on.

This week the new XJ is revealed. It is the Jaguar flagship model and it is……

horrid!

Take the oddest designer that only the French would admire and send him to America which is full of ugly fat cars and you get

an odd ugly fat car.

Inside it looks like a Vegas casino. The front is a lumpen monster with no grace or style

The roof line is just odd. It is no good for your dignitary in the back as they have cut down the roof line so much there is no headroom. And the back window is just strange. It all just looks like the parts don’t fit together.

Sorry I just had to get it off my chest. I guess some will like it, I am OK with moving with the times (as they have with other models) but do so with style!

I tested the new XFR and XKR at Gaydon earlier this year, and saw this in development, i have to say, in the metal this is a beastly looking car, and if it uses the engine from the XKR, it will fracking GO!

Business as usual from Jaguar - get a design that will only appeal to the retro crowd 10 years down the line and expect to make a profit competing in the contemporary market.

agree with this, as it was with the old XJ, but the s-type will never be a good looking car, and the XFR?

That is a mess. It doesn't look like it knows what it's supposed to be but it doesn't look like a Jaguar. I see what you mean about it looking like the French did it.

In the first shot it looks okay but that rear shot is terrible! It's got no aesthetic appeal at all; the sides are huge slabs and out of proportion to the windows and wheels. Ghastly.

I think the pics look ok - but when you see them in real life you can't help feeling sorry for the plonker who has shelled out his hard earned for a complete turkey.

I saw one of the new GTR's in town the other day and that's another in the same mould - not a bit of the style of the old Skyline about it.

is it me or did jaguar kind of loose its way when Sir W. Lyons died?

he either penned the cars himself or had some hand in the design (didn't like the e-type's rear showing its exhaust)

the XK8 and XKR were ok cars but a diesel estate from a company that became known for thrashing the pants off everyone at Le Mans?

to me jaguar were the British competitor to Mercedes benz - luxury saloons to drive or be driven in (the MK10, smaller sportier saloons (the MKII, also known as the S type) and the heretage of sports cars as beautiful as they were fast - SS100, XK120, XK150, E-type, XJS (it was the 80's)

I'm convinced that if Jaguar had put money into the replacement of the XKR, making it the successor to the E-type legacy that so many people have been waiting for them to do, and done it as well as the prototypes they kept showing, instead of coming up with a rival to a BMW 3 series estate, the company would not be in the situation its in now.
