Reading the following article dealing with children born with the physical appearance of girls but who subsequently grow a penis and testicles blew my mind.

Because it would open a whole can of worms regarding health insurance, life assurance, confidentiality, ownership of data etc. etc.

Then there's the cost.

There is already testing for Down's which has no implication on any of those areas.

I understand the point you're making, but a simple analysis for gender, paternity and major conditions would be easy and resolve many issues.

Medical terminations are carried out routinely past the general abortion cut off point. The same would be an issue if for instance a family wanted a boy but were found to be expecting a girl. There are still a lot of cultures where boys are more valuable than girls. The ethics behind such knowledge is huge.

I agree, it is corrupt, and something we debated in college which ended up dividing a class. Sadly even post birth the baby would could be at risk of rejection if found to be of mixed gender or of the 'wrong' gender.
