This takes me back to the 1960's/early 70's, when as children we'd pull the tar up on our cobbled street and make balls of tar with it. Why?🤔 I do not know!😉 All I know is if you got tar on your clothes, it'd mean slapped legs from mother!🙄😉

I rode back from Buxton along the lanes today and where the tractors had turned into the fields was like a raised tractor tyre tread tar ridged mountain range. Not very nice to ride over or through. Also go lumps of tar stuck to various parts of the bike now.

North Yorkshire Council are getting a lot of flak for announcing a further delay in the opening of replacement for Cote du Blubberhouses blaming the wet weather. Presume someone did not check the statement as I would suspect its the hot weather precluding the laying of tarmac.

This week I've had the week off thankfully (holiday) and the road gangs have been resurfacing the road outside my house along a 200 metre stretch.
They haven't done the usual cheap spray on chippings this time but they've done a proper job of scalping the top layer down by six inches then put down a base layer then a top finishing layer of asphalt.
I was walking past it the other day just as they layed the base coat and they were beginning to roll it down and the heat coming of it was unreal.You could actually hear the freshly layed road bubbling away.
It was 30 degrees air temperature on top of this as well and road gang were suited up with thick orange work trousers and protective jackets/gloves and hard hats.
They must of been cooking working in that.
It's definitely a young man's game

Melting bitumen was pretty common on extra hot days in Western Australia, where I spent my first 30 years. The summer heat has always been pretty brutal there.

the furry dashboards were an eye opener, as the regular plastic we Europeans are more familiar with, just melts.

I noticed the melty road when I drove Mrs FP's car - when I took my foot off the throttle the car slowed so much I thought the handbrake was on!
