According to the BBC news this evening the UK government is being urged to adopt "American style yellow school buses". No word about getting the pupils to walk or cycle, or getting them to attend a school near their home.
Why American anyway? Maybe that was the bit that annoyed me most:biggrin:, the apparent inability to look in any direction other than to the USA.;)

I read somewhere... (sorry can't remember where), that it was either illegal or that you lost face by picking your kids up in the car in Japan. Now if only that was true in the UK just dream of the difference that would make.

Sorry, Snorri. just because it's from america doesn't make it a bad idea... it just happens that the american "yellow school bus" is an image that the vast majority of people know and understand.

Apparently one in 5 morning rush-hour cars is going on the school run. If these busses can reduce that, then all the better. the question of walking/cycling still needs be the addressed, but this is a direct alternative for the cars.

I really like the idea of hundreds of mum's on bikes collecting their little ones... can just imagine the noise as they all start ting-a-linging their bells to say good bye to one another...

Sounds a good idea, but can you imagine the what would happen to the government or authority who made the law here when/if one child went missing or was killed/injured by a car or other vehicle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
