On the way home last night, I had to slam on the anchors when a guy with a dog came out of nowhere.

Some guy on a skinny tyred road bike zoomed passed me whilst I was sorting out the gears.

So what do I do ? I see it as my responsibilty to catch him up & overtake him.

I had to stop again due to a lovely lady falling off her bike in front of me, but I got started again & resumed the chase.

About 2 miles later he was about 30yards in front & unfortunately, he turned off.

I reckon that I'd have caught him if he'd kept on to my exit about 3/4 of a mile further on.

As soon he'd gone, I seemed to lose a bit of steam & had to slow quite considerably.

The best part of it was getting back home looking bright red. The wife asked what was up & I couldn't tell her for about 10 mins as I was too breathless to talk!

Checkec the computer & I was averaging about 25 MPH when I was chasing him.

Still a bit knackered now,

The chase is special source of power all of its own.

BTW, what's your route?

i was racing some single speed student on a red and white bike yesterday evening, he kept passing me when he was jumping red lights but i always caught up and passed him, some of the way i hung off his rear wheel to the right so he could see me and know I could take him at any point

Why didn't you keep up with him and then when approaching each red light, say "See you in a minute" as you slowed and he carried on? ;)

Down the Liverpool Loop line between Speke & Childwall.

Was full of cyclists last night !

I've never taken the loop line but I go from Wavertree, through Childwall (passed the Childwall entrance to the loop line), then I go out to Netherly, Halewood, Hale Village, then around the back of Speke by the airport going into town through Garston, along the prom to the Britania and then take the road again until I hit work.

But at night I usually just go as far as Garston, by the cricket club, then cut up through Childwall and onto Wavertree. Unless I feel like going further, like tonight, when I might do the whole route in reverse.

I don't do the monthly rides purely because there wasn't one from my area... so I volunteered to start one if they thought there was demand. We have 3 people offering to lead/shepherd the ride... unsure how many 'newbies' will actually turn up to do it though.

I didn't realise there was a breakfast after each monthly ride!! I may be in for those from now on too (as I'll be leading a ride I guess I'll be there anyway, but a bit later as there's an 8.30 pickup on the route in stretford so I'm guessing we'll be at the Uni by about 8.45 - 9.00). ;)

Well if you ride to the Peace Gardens next Weds, you'll get a free Breakfast too - check out cyclegm.org - Sharky and I, plus others will be stopping at Oxford Road, but there are 'extension' rides into the centre for non Uni/Hospital staff - plus there is more going on in the Centre.
