The trouble with bike thieves is you can't rely on them to steal the bikes when you want them to! There has been much reporting of the Aviva press release about how much you need to take out insurance because your bike is so at risk from being stolen, but is that the whole story? Well according to this story the Insurance company planted bikes in well-known theft hotspots across London, but the thieves didn't turn up...

The way sod's law works unfortunately, somebody who couldn't afford to have their ASDA special nicked, would securely lock up their bike and it'd be gone in seconds
