The Shaggs have - bafflingly, in my view - garnered something of a cult following. It's a good story though: basically, their dad was told by a fortune teller that his daughters would be the next big Girl Band. So, not allowing himself to be put off by the fact that neither of them could play a note or sing, he bought them a drumkit and a guitar and pretty much locked them in the cellar to write songs. As soon as he died - run over by a bus, or something - they packed it in and never played again. Now, people who really should know better are hailing them as lost geniuses.
