My Wifi sucketh beeeeeeeeeeeg time...hate it..is with 02. The router keeps shutting down and I loose the interweb...have finally got back on here after 2 days...took three helpline calls and endless re boots etc

am going to get a 12 metre cable and plug the **** er in

Well mine is plugged in via the router and the lap tops (rest of family) have a wifi connection to the router. First router I had did fail (Netgear) but they did replace it and so far, fingers crossed, touch a big plank of knotty stuff and not walking under ladders on Friday 13th - it's been OK

BT + Belkin. Never had a problem - or none that couldn't be sorted quickly and easily. Don't think I've called BT's helpdesk in five years.

As my router was working OK after a lot of messing some years ago I did not want to touch it. So I got an Access Point instead. Difference seems to be that instead of a Router with a wireless signal link built in it is just a seperate bit to just do that.
Advantage is you can site it some way from the router if you want and it just plugs in the router same as the desktop does. Cheap too as it is a simple add on.

I'm with Virgin, when it's on form it's lightening fast, however the odd occasion it seems to just cut out for a while, then randomly decided to work again...

That's your IPS, the wireless bit comes from your wireless hub - the box with the big aerial on it . What make and model is that. Check if you can see your neighbours networks. They may be interfering with yours. Try changing channels.

Check the lights on the box....if the internet one drops out it's the ISP, not the router.

Got a Netgear here - pretty standard issue with most ISP's and me, both sisters and my folks have the same - never had issues with any of them.

Ahhh ok i have no idea what the reason is! It just cuts out for all of my housemates as well! It's very rare though The actual router has all the green lights on it, still omits the signal (can see it when searching for networks) it just won't connect

Had a Belkin that was always freezing up, moved to a DLink which has been good, Just got the Virgin DLink 300mpbs, tried to install it the other day and couldnt figure the bloody thing out...does my head in anything like that

If its any consolation, i was speaking to our IT guy at work about wireless networks some time ago...he said he avoids them whenever possible, just too much aggro when an ethernet cable will do the job..100%. As he said, and its true in my case, most people have a wireless network to use a laptop in almost the same place every time. Why not just run a cable to that point and save yourself all that aggro ?

It may not be the router, it could be Virgin DNS servers failing. This used to happen to me all the time, be browsing fine then all of a sudden 404 errors cant get on anything. So I changed the DNS servers from Virgin's to OpenDNS and haven't had a problem since B)

'cos the wireless works fine, and it sure beats running a cable down three flights of stairs.
