I had been putting my spare eggs out in my front garden for my neighbours . A small charge to help cover costs and everyone seemed happy to leave the money for my girls . Untill yesterday when someone took the shoe box full of eggs . Im not really bothered about the eggs its the fact that someone has walked onto my property and stolen something and turned what was a nice thing into pants .
I havnt told my chickens yet !

Maybe it was the chickens taking them back, repatriation to the chicken shed.

There's always someone after something for nothing.

We give our excesses direct to friends and family, I fear we'd routinely have them nicked or plenty of complaints about eggy windows from neighbours if we tried the honesty box approach.

I thought that but it went fine for a few months, even been over paid a few times. I guess some people are just shoot.

Yep (no pun intended) there's always one bad egg.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Since you've been doing it successfully for a while, why allow one bad experience to put you off? Try again. If the whole lot get stolen again, tell your neighbours that you're taking a break for a while but they're still welcome to knock on your door and ask.

If you know which neighbours are taking the eggs [the paying ones] then tell them and ask if would keep an eye on things. Casual thieves rarely like to be watched.
However just a point - there was a notice telling people of the 'arrangement' ? If not [or it had blown away] it is possible that there was simply a misunderstanding.

A guy nearby to me used to put apples from his garden out the front in a wheelbarrow with a sign 'Help Yourself'
Then someone did.............................to his wheelbarrow. :cursing:

There's always one rotten apple......gets on yer pip.
Edit, Or is it pipped at the post?
