Second day back at work and what a difference.

Yesterday was quiet on the roads - probably still quite a few people off looking after the kids who went back to school today. Easy pedal in, only one close pass and no real issues.

But this morning! Engage first gear, disengage brain and join the long queues of traffic again . Even with filtering it's added 5 minutes onto my 70 minute commute. Impossible to filter in places due to poor positioning/cars drifting/mobile phone use/general incompetence.

And don't get me started on the number of cars with only one headlight working or, if both are working, the cars that seem to want to illuminate the sky instead of the road - SORT YOUR LIGHTS OUT

I wonder if the recent cold spell has anything to do with the number of lights not working on cars at the moment. Last month I had a dipped beam & brake light both to replace & yesterday my wife needed a headlight lamp replacing too. There's always some driving round with an odd light out, but certainly round here there is more than normal

I seem to get more hassle when the roads are quiet! The journey is still a bit quicker though than in term time. I prefer for there to a bit some traffic so I can feel smug about overtaking them. It doesn't feel so good trudging along at approx 15mph and everyone flying by.

There's something slightly strange going on, I've seen loads of cars with faulty headlights and have had to replace two bulbs on my car in as many Months!

They are undoubtedly back. I've had a handful of commutes on the bike over the break and they have all been quite pleasant and uneventful. Today, however, even though there was only a very little more traffic at the time I travel in to London, the general level of competence had dropped and there was far more aggression. Pretty much my first encounter with traffic as I left home was to witness a white van driver attempt a left hook on a bus. Unfortunately that wasn't my last brush with idiocy on the way in.

I had countless crap happen to me yesterday, thank god i didn't commute by bike today. Going by everyone else it would have been worse.
