Things have not changed much in the intervening 70 years.
Its still a case of 'never have so many owed so much to so few'
only in today's case the 'few' are the mortgage suppliers and the credit card companies

There was a 'S*itfire Fund' that raised a lot of money, but.... 'The Hurricane Fund' raised bugger all, so yes, nothing has changed, people are as stupid* as ever.

The first pic is of Hurricanes , The second was supposed to be Spits, my error !
and im not in the pub !
The post is in Honour of the Men that flew against the Luftwaffe , regardless of the planes they flew

I think that like many things at this time, the Spitfire was a propaganda success

With the development from the S6 and the Schneider Trophy, there was already a massive tradition of British aviation success and engineering that continued to give the Spitfire a racing heritage and sporty profile that fitted well with the propaganda machine

The Hurricane meanwhile was a plodding, steady development of a practical fighter / bomber and interceptor that lacked the profile of the Spitfire. The fact that it served longer, in a wider theatre and accounted for more enemy aircraft was lost
