by the creation of a web site advertising the service of a kitchen fitter. I've spent this week assembling the basic structure of the site and making pages templates and I'm now waiting for images to use instead of the fillers that I have had to use to give the client an idea of the finished product.

It's been a roller coaster journey resurrecting the skills that I last used in anger 12 years ago but £1000 was not to be sneezed at.

I've had fun making sure that the pages work properly in all the major browsers and I've marvelled at the Javascript frameworks that take a lot of the hard work out of development.

It also meant that I could engage in geeky conversations with my son who works at the sharp end of large scale e-commerce applications. Here's something that his co- geeks have cobbled together - a plane tracker using a £200 receiver - some clever coding and Google maps.

Nice one Vernon! those little jobs are great for a one man band, keep the templates and file structures etc so you can reskin for the next small business you can help.

Its a tough competitive world for high end web development but the 1k market is full of potential clients and its a great salary boost.

I forgot to include the link to the plane tracker

I have no aspiratations to do high ended stuff and my thoughts about reskinning what I've got for future sites coincide with yours. There's one or two potential clients sniffing around. One will pay cash the other is offering a year's supply of meat and fish.

They are not in a hurry to move things on which suits me fine.

That's pretty cool. I love the notice at the bottom:

"We've done this site for fun so you are not allowed to use it for any commercial or criminal purposes.
Any suggestions about how we can improve the site will be ignored and generally laughed at!"

Leave the page running for a day and see the air corridors get defined. Aparently the range is up to 300 miles from Leeds depending on the altitude of the plain and the terrain.

Military planes also get identified. My son has seen several AWACs identified - 'planes with mushrooms on their backs' is how he described them.
