Hi all,

Thought i would tap a quick intro.
Im Gary known to friends as "Teddy" - Long story believe me.

I'm 26, and live in North Bedfordshire.

As per a couple of other "noobs" I am a big car fan - however whilst I do keep fit, i noticed that i was missing the main thing that I would never stop doing when younger - CYCLING!

I used to Mountain Bike a fair bit, and rack up some miles too, so living where i do (in the sticks) it seems a bit silly that I do not take advantage of my environment and get back on the bike.

I have to say the stickies in this part of the forum have proved really useful - my main question was "which bike to choose" I sold my old GT years ago. So I do need a replacement, don't want to spend a bomb, just something reliable that i can rack up some miles on, the links here proving very useful so far. However, I did forget what a minefield it is! Ill have to keep my wits about me.

Anyway, I look forward to speaking with you in turn at some point.

Thanks very much.

Teddy

Hello young Teddy,

This lot have the stamina for a long story, as they kindly proved with my first post. (and if it's an embarrassing secret, then no one's listening... just sit here and whisper quietly... no one will ever know!)

Hello Teddy & welcome. The GT was indeed a well reviewed bike as I recall (the avalanche was anyway!) and you could do worse than replace like-for-like. Are you after another MTB? Or how's a neat flat barred hybrid for the road? I only say that because I rather fancy one myself at the moment!

Thanks for the welcome!
The whole "Teddy" thing was to do with a not no "trendy" hair cut (and no i do not have photos) when i was around 14, it just kinda stuck!

My old GT MTB (Was a Polomar so only a cheapo) but it was the best thing i had ever riden, what a great bike, bought it at 13ish i think and paid £199 (alot of money then!)

Im just after a road bike now i think, just to explore, dont really fancy a hybrid, although i clocked up alot of miles on road on my old MTB, I do fancy a road bike for the speed, but really dont want to spend alot of cash! (Two evils I know!)

Welcome, since you sold your GT even low grade MTBs have got disc brakes and front suspension. I keep recommending Merlin Cycles in Leyland, they do some cracking own-brand steel frame MTBs for extremely attractive prices.

Hi teddy...
Road bike....how much do you want to spend ?
Most of the major manufacturers have an entry level (dont be put off by the term 'entry level, they're fine bikes) all about £500 to £600. These include Bianchi, Felt, Specialized, Giant, Orbea etc etc.
You may get last years models cheaper by buying online, so there's savings to be made, but then if you buy this years models you may as well go to your LBS.

Cheaper....Decathlon are well regarded and have some cheaper models. Have you an outlet near you ?

Halfords may be worth a look if you want slightly cheaper...the Carrera range.

So...how much do you want to spend. The worlds your oyster.

hi teddy, welcome.

you could do worse than check out edinburgh cycle co-op or decathlon. these seem to offer really decent budget bikes.
