Hello all. In the last two days I've been beeped by three seperate vehicles. Am I doing something wrong or are motorists getting more aggressivee/impatient:

1) Approach red light for crossroads to go straight over. left hand lane is the correct one for me. very long queue of traffic so I filtered up the RHS to three or four vehicles from the front. I pull level with the gap between cars and wait. Light turns green, the cars set off and I follow, merging into the gap. Matey-boy behind tries to overtake on the junction and misjudges my speed so has to abort. I am travelling at the same speed as the cars (downhill) so take primary/right hand side so I can be ready to filter past next queue in a short distance. BEEEEEP!

2) this one is explained by idiotic WVM. Riding up steep hill with parked cars on the left, queuing traffic in opposite direction. I pull into next large gap and keep going. However I was obviously going to slow for WVM who, as he passed, BEEEEEEEEP!

3) This morning similar to 1) however only one lane for all turning directions. I filter down the RHS of the queue however the light turns green so I prepare to merge with the accelerating traffic. I find a gap and move into it however the car in front stalls. I therefore go around and continue over the junction. He restarts and the BEEEEEP!

Any thoughts?

Illegal use of the horn on three occasions, the horn has one legitimate use to alert other road users to the vehicles presence.

You are always going to get people beeping you when on a back-comes with the territory.

You need to put the beeps to one side and concentrate on your own riding.

I always assume a "beep" is a friendly sign of recognition, and am seldom wrong.

I don't respond to those who "beep" behind me in the hope that they will get the message that I don't like being "beeped" from behind.

Nothing wrong with being beeped - it means they've seen you. I can't see anything wrong from your account of the cycling you were doing there. Pity you don't have front and rear cams, then we could spend 10-100 pages in debate about every tiny issue visible in the video.

Filtering down the RHS and then merging could easily be seen as queue-jumping. Personally I prefer to take my place in the queue than filter.

If its about 4 cars, I tend to wait in line.

Im not going to wait if its 20 or 30 cars. My filtering does not slow down the car drivers for a second. The car drivers on the other hand, will hold me up as long as I have to wait in line.

So I filter, safely and ignore any incorrect usage of the horn

I think that's true to a degree, but a beep or two can often preface an aggressive/close overtake, or a squeeze etc For this reason, you need to be aware of possible "afters" and consider whether it is worth deferring by trying to keep an eye on the often impatient and bullying road user behind you.
