Time to choose my bike

Hi folks, my c2w has just opened. Ive been lurking here for a good while in preparation for this and although I've gained some knowledge i still need a bit of info. My work only uses Halfords however they can order other brands. I have always liked the Allez by Specialized and i am pretty sure i want one (I've also considered the Boardman range).

My problem is, i am hung up about the chainset. Is Sora worth the extra few hundred pounds? I am not a serious rider and i am buying this bike to help aid my ever growing waistband.

I want to spend no more than £700/750.

Opinions please.

Personally, I would say yes it is, but thats because I cant get on with the shifters with the button to change up. This years sora has a second lever like those of the higher end groupsets.

That said, I would also try to go for the elite at £900 because...
1-In my view, Tiagra is where it changes from a usable grouset to a nice groupset.
2-Its 10 speed, so if you want to keep it years and upgrade to higher end components you can do it bit by bit from your choice of 105, ultegra, dura-ace. With the cheaper bikes you would have to change everything at once to upgrade.
3-Just look at it!

I dont think you will be disapointed by either allez, and only you know your budget.

If you just want to commute to work and have a few days out then the Sora or below will do you fine. If you plan on getting serious and regularly doing longer rides or sportives, then the extra niceness will be apprecialted, if you think its worth it and can afford it.

Just noticed the sport comes in a choice of 2 colours. Black and red and one very similar to the pic above.

I'd say that Sora is now worth the upgrade from 2300 due to it using the Tiagra style shifting.

What happens to theory #2 when Dura-Ace goes 11-speed though, then 12-speed, then 13- etc. It's not like the higher end stuff doesn't evolve too!

One can always gets 7 8 or 9 speed bits and bobs by clever shopping around.
