Just wondering if you still pedal when changing gear or if you stop to gear change

just wondering if one way or the other creates more wear on parts?

Seems to me that if you don't pedal, the gear won't change.

Or is this another "joke" question

i found if i dont pedal when i shift then when i pedal again it changes quicker and with less noise than if i shift while i pedal which can sometimes cause it to grate i little till it changes

just wondered if it caused less wear to not pedal while shifting

Although with hub gears you have to STOP pedaling in order to change gears? I was also advised that one should pedal more lightly/slowly when changing to avoid the crunching sound that happens if the chain is stretched when you change.
