They consider it a minority interest - and one, moreover, that arouses positive loathing among many non-enthusiasts.

Just like Top Gear then....

(which I love).

It'll be a long time coming. But there are blogs like the Guardian one, so maybe it'll come eventually. It's tricky. You don't want to be too wierd, but ideally you want the wow factor and to blow apart preconceptions - so you need to do a lot of extremes and oddities - racing, recumbents, load carrying etc.

If anyone wants to fly me and my trike to the top of the Stelvio pass, and film me coming down, I'm in!

I used to pitch biketastic ideas to the Babe. And she wasn't impressed. It's not that cycling is a minority thing - it's just not as exciting to watch as it is to do.

It'd have to be sort of multi-interest, sort of two wheel everything. A serious bit for the roadies, races etc, a mental 'presenter does it' approach to mountain biking, some silly challenges and maybe a bit of, dare I say this!, maintenance?

Thing is, the BBC has so many content channels at the moment I would see it ideally as something for BBC4 because you can then make it quite technical and in-depth without alienating a large section of the dumbed-down audience the BBC thinks passes for its main channel viewers these days (basically anything with 'dancing' and 'issues' and 'crime/pathology' and 'hospitals with unfeasible flippin' injuries and romance').

That's my two cents.

It would need to get viewers in for advertising revenue. Sporting events have relatively low audience figures but create a high advertising revenue as it is targeting advertising. A general cycling program wouldn't pull in the veiwing figures. If you're targeting channel 5 you could ask Ian Wright to do a daily/weekly slot on that show he co-presents if it's still on. The last time I heard him interviewed on the radio he mentioned cycling several times but the interviewer (Moyles) didn't pick up on it.I think he got the bug when he rode with Geoff Thomas.

You could make your own show and broadcast on youtube .

It sounds like it'll be a bit like scrap heap challenge...which isn't exactly the most attractive of shows.

You could certainly make a cheap "police action camera" type show with all the youtube footage out there

That aught to satisfy the needs of drunk [cyclists] at about 3 oclock in the morning after a night out

The beep has some bike shows, like those travelling silly distances without a coffee and pub stop every couple of miles
