I’ve been on my fixie (NickM’s old fixie – a top bike from a top bloke) for the last few months. Loving it and enjoying the smmooooooth action on my daily commute.
Over the weekend I put together a geared road bike for SWMBO from bits that were lying around in the cellar, on an old SJSC Cro-mo frame. Road testing it this week, so I’m back on gears.
Now, I have a commuting buddy who has been giving me gyp about my weight and speed for two years. But after losing 8kg earlier this year, and getting on the fixie, I am stacks more powerful than he is.
So I toasted him today. He pulled away first from the lights up the hill. I took him within 50 metres, and by the traffic lights a mile later I had a ten second lead.
It’s the second time I’ve done him when I’ve been on a fast bike (i.e. not a commuting hack), so we passed no comments, but he knew that he and his fancy Trek 2500 lighter-than-air had been owned.
Please forgive the macho chest-thumping, but I feel I deserve it!
