Bucketing it down (on the Wirral anyway), so as a benevolent gesture to my fair weather riding comrades on CycleChat, I'm declaring today a 'bike maintenance and drinking tea and eating cake' day, please enjoy this gift ;)

Great timing there, I've got no cake and my bike is 400 miles away in London! Besides that it is a misty drizzly day in Ireland and perfect lazy loving fettle weather!

Can I redeem this gift at the start of Septemeber?

I had planned on putting a new fixed seat post on my commuter and doing some other work; cleaning, lubing, etc. Unfortunately I got sent out for a site visit yesterday afternoon and by the time I got back the office was locked up along with my bike an new seatpost.;)

Well, I'll enter into the spirit of it.

I'll be fitting my F'iz:ik bar gel and tape today, and as the missus is away, I'll be doing that (whisper it) in the living room.

Good idea Dodgy but today for me is "Cooking and Cleaning Day" seeing as it's raining.
I've eaten a lot and haven't done much cleaning ;)

I will be greasing a seat post later in readiness for a ride out tomorrow but I have no cake, yet.

A day off the bike isn't wasted if you're fettling your loved one (bike). For me it's bleeding the hydraulics on the MTB, new cable for gears fitting, all accompanied by some comedy show of some sort on R2 in my garage workshop ;)

Next best thing to riding the bike, am I bad for taking so much pleasure in maintaining my bikes?

Dave.

I did mine yesterday

Yep, me too!

I wish I could wash and tinker around with my bikes at home (or where I live - rented accommodation) but have to make do with the facilities at work.

One day I'll have my own little shed/workshop/doss house!

I was on a maintenance day as well.....

Waxed and polished both road bikes (yeh I know) and re-greased the jockey wheels on the Herety and lubed the chain (here is hoping for good weather tomorrow).

Popped out to B&Q to get a couple of anchor points and cable kits - down to £7.99 from £20 for securing the kids bikes in the garage (after Sharky's experience recently), and fixed the kids battery operated trike thing (the wheel fell off).

Grrrr - it got rather dirty this morning - my fault - shouldn't have waxed it - missed most of the rain showers, but ran into the after effects of a heavy shower 5 miles from home - soaked feet from spray by the time I got home.

Windy though - 21 miles in 1.03 !!! Including hills !!!
