The reason he was shaking his head at the motorist, was because the motorist had the audacity to approach a red light at walking pace, without leaving quite enough room for us to filter past. Eventually he passed the parked van and we could filter into the ASL, at which point I stopped and the head shaker didn't.

Out loud. I have tendency to say these thinks out load, but not that loud, so the person knows I've spoken but can't be sure what I said or whether I said to them.

Although he did turn round with a guilty look on his face.

Once on a cruise ship on the Nile, some people asked me if I was a descendant of Oscar Wilde, I think it was meant as a compliment.
