Recently I've been fortunate to get a new car which means my in-car Parrot handsfree system went with the old car! I also have a TomTom which is about 7 years old and starting to die. From what I have read it seems the TomTom car kit for Iphone would replace the Parrot handsfree kit and I could add the TomTom app to my iPhone for SatNav etc. I like my iPhone and always found TomTom to be very reliable so want to stick with those products.

Has anyone experience of using either or both?

i have no experience of using, but have been told that downloading the free tomtom app to stop the screen of the phone turning off (to save power) is a bit essential.

Well I got the hands free kit and the app. I've always been impressed with TomTom and this app works very well. Speaker quality on the hands free kit could be better but that will be solved when the lead to connect to the car audio arrives. The only issue I have come across is closing down the app. After using an app most people close them by pressing the home button, however this does not shut down the TomTom app. I guess it's because the TT software is designed to work with a device that is switched on and off regularly or is usually run with a power source so the GPS drain on the battery doesn't matter.

If one doesn't switch off the app the GPS function will kill the battery quickly. To turn the app off, double tap the home button, touch and hold the app icon till it moves then press the little "no entry" roundel to sitch the TomTom app off. Alternatively switch the phone off and on again but that's a bit of a pain.
