Teaching SWMBO to ride a bike :bicycle: :hugs:

She grew up next to a very very busy road and never had her own bike as a child.
As a result, she never learnt how to go a two wheeler.
That couldn't do as she's missing out on family rides of which there had been less because it's never cool to have to leave mum behind.

Until tonight !!!

We went to a local industrial area and found a quiet car park with a slight incline.

Took both pedals off the bike to get them out of the equation.
Soon had here lifting both feet a little to easily roll down the hill.
She always knew shed had control, which really mattered, I think.

Once she was comfortable with her balance, I added a single pedal.
She then got used to having a foot on a pedal with a spare foot for touching down if required.
No problem with that, let's move onto two pedals :-))))

Now that she had mastered balance, I told her to just do as before, but just pick up the pedals and pedal away when she was happy.

Bingo, away she went !
We went from the little hill to the flat and starting from a standstill.
Add a little bit of cornering into it all and I believe that Mummy can now go a bike !

Woohoo !!!!

P.S. She's only 48.
You're never too young etc.

Brilliant. Lovely story.

She'll be leaving you for dead on those hills soon....

I think we'll try it one turn of the pedals at a time.
We'll go between a couple of stops on the canal towpath.
That there will be a huge thing for her psychologically.
A mile out and a mile back will be the biggest thing ever.

I got into cycling in order to get fitter, plus I also love machines.
The bicycle is of course the purest machine ever.
If she can get involved too and we all get a bit fitter and healthier, that's all the better.

Thanks all for the kind words, it's much appreciated.
