Sorry it was not a competition. It was a Concert.Oh and what a Concert. It was awesome, this was my first.
The band was City of Bradford Brass Band. The playing was out of this world. So much better than on telly. The audience were mainly mature ladeese and gentallmen. We even got an encore. The only sound you heard from the audience was either clapping or joining in on shouts of Ole,Arriba,Arriba and any other whooping sounds. The evening was over far too quickly. What a night.
You took your time to discover the joy of brass bands.
Competitions are day long events with the British Championship lasting two days.
If you want to sample more then one band in one event then the Saddleworth & District Whit Friday Brass Band competition where over a hundred bands ranging from youth bands through to the 'big hitters' compete at a range of venues. Each band plays one piece on the march and one piece on a rostrum. There's more music than you can shake a stick at. Next year's is on 29th May.
Here's some forthcoming ones all of them at Morley Town Hall.
