I was on the bike riding to the chainy...hit some lights, hung a left, riding along - WHACK (gets a swipe to the back/side of helmet) - turns out a lad was hanging out of the front of the passenger side of car (ford focus)...

I carried on...done osm ethe ride but couldnt be bothered carrying on with it..soo on way back to a police station, stopped 2 CSO's who where quite nice...and informative.

My confidence is slightly knocked...but am not gonna let it spoil my fun of the cycling which I supremely love !

What does anyone else think of this and has anyone had anything happen like this.

I know I will not riding in that area, as I can get in better riding elsewhere, less built up!!!

Stay safe out there and be observant.

Very upsetting Yenners, it does happen to others as well, in various forms, but we must all try not to let it stop us riding. I hope the details you gave the police will get some results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My sympathies too Yenners, and you did right reporting it - we shouldn't let idiots like that get away with it.

Glad you're all in one piece, and try not to let it put you off - you've been cycling a lot of years, too many for these plonkers to spoil it.

I've seen a cyclist being punched in York (not by age or demographic you might expect), I've never had it happen to me. I very much hope the details get a result.

Just call me Chris...
T*ssers

I've had my arse slapped by a chav hanging out of a car.

Don't let it put you off, one day someone'll do it then run into unexpected temporary traffic lights or something and then the favour can be returned (except with an SPD in the teeth instead of a slap )

Nil desperandum illegitimi, Yenners. After some depressing stuff recently, I've thought about packing the riding in and going back to running but I'm going to take the advice of William Shakespear and "**** the begrudgers!"

Every cyclist should have the local Police non-emergency number on their phone. In Lancashire it's 0845 1 25 35 45 and in Greater Manchester it's 0161 872 5050.

The Police are quite happy to take reports of vehicles speeding in your street, assaults such as you experienced, etc. These get logged on the Police National Computer against that car reg. If the car is seen by a patrol car equipped with ANPR the driver will get stopped for a chat. More than three reports and the Police will pay the driver a visit at home. We report speeders in our street regularly and Lancashire Police are perfectly happy to take the reports. We have succeeded in getting one idiot sorted out and he now drives carefully, in our street at least. In my view this is an excellent use of computer technology. Other forces may not have the same attitude to this though.

BTW, my pal and I got egged last night by a passing car as we came out of the pub. Couldn't get the number though before we realised what had happened.

Been shouted at, had water hurled at me and had the idiots hanging right out of the passenger window trying to frighten me as they pass.

My big fear is that one of these fools will push someone off as they pass.
Not nice to hit the deck at 25 mph

On a similar vein, i was cycling home last night and was blasted on the horn by some knob-end in his souped up Corsa almost making me jump out of my skin ! ;)

As i drive/cycle the same route daily at the same time, my eyes will be peeled looking for this tw*t !

Sorry to hear that Yenners - try not to let them get to you!

When I first started cycling round here I had a great ride ruined by White Van Man's Mate. He leaned out of his window as they went past me up a hill. I looked up, expecting a cheery message like "Keep going pal, not far to the top!" What I actually got was the thick green contents of his throat emptied onto my face to the sound of jeers and the screeching of tyres. It really spoiled my day, but I didn't let it put me off cycling. I'm still riding 20 years on.

Paul - you can't give up cycling, I'm expecting to ride with you on Sunday! ;)
