Wasn't sure if this section is purely for cycle related problems but my tonsils do affect my riding so I suppose that counts.

I was just wondering if anyone has had large troublesome tonsils and managed to get them removed?

My docs seem very reluctant to but I'm always getting sore throats, stones, choke on food and suffer sleep apnea.

Tonsils don't usually cause all the mischief you describe. Simplest thing is to get a referral to your local ENT Consultant. It's what they are there for

I have massive tonsils and used to get tonsillitis every year as a kid. I'm not really sure why they didn't remove them...

I've had no problems for probably10 years now (touch wood)

Agree on the earlier post. Insist on referral or get s second opinion

Snap. Mine were removed as a kid. They are supposed to stop infections aren't they. Considering I am rarely ill they are over rated.

Same here. Mine were removed when I was 7, and I haven't missed them. I'm probably the healthiest sibling of 4.

I now have a both ears infected and tonsillitis so on antibiotics. I have asked a number of times about getting referred. Had tonsillitis 5 times last year, already on 4 this year so hopefully they will refer me soon.

Very annoying as I love being on the go but this really knocks me out, bed at half nine and dragging myself up in the morning to cycle the bare minimum is not me

Thank you all. You have reminded me why I need some other bits getting rid of. Constant misery. The Docs aren't too keen.

Tonsils really don't do much. Mine were whipped out. But I've seen folk have trouble for years. At what point is it worth getting something non essential removed if it is causing so much life trouble like sickness from work...

The SIGN guidelines are pretty clear on surgical management of tonsil problems. I never usually suggest looking on the internet and asking your doctor about what you have found but in this case it's pretty reasonable.
