Let's break it down:
GC contest: zero overall peril, although nice to see it passed around in the first act.
Green Jersey: zero peril once Jasper had his disaster.
Polka Dots: the patient ain't dead but still needs surgery.
White Jersey: Onley real contest of the race (sorry, not sorry). At the end, it did look a bit man against boy. Think it would be better as a best rookie contest, and would likely not interfere as much with the overall GC.
The route: spot on, and there were some great 1 day races. Whether that led to the anodyne week 3, who knows. The riders do make the race rather than the route.
5 out of 10 for me.

5/10 for me and hard to disagree with your post. Fairly disappointing tour and it really needed a GC battle where it didn't look like JV was just hanging on.

I gave it 6. It started brilliantly (aided by the fact I was at the finish of Stage 1) and the first 10 days were brilliant.
But then the fact GC was over at Peyragudes reminded of the Lance and Froome Tours which lacked something after the first decisive time gaps were made

GC race was decided at the Dauphine. Talk about unsurprising. Polka dot Shambles of a competition still . Pogacar literally couldn't give it away . Green jersey,.. pogacar literally had to make the effort to give it away . ......and yet I have never watched a tour with so much active racing km . It was remarkable . There were great stages despite the big names like remco and WvA not firing on all cylinders. It was a tiring watch because of the active nature of the race . I don't know how to score it . 8/10

I didn't include the -36 km shortening of stage 19 the other day so i make it about 42.9kmh

Finally a official number " The average speed for the winner of the 2025 Tour de France was 42.849 km/h, making it the fastest Tour de France in history"

I dunno. All the negatives above are true, but I still really enjoyed it. Because I'm easily pleased. Gave it a 7

5 out of 10 for me.

Week 3 had the Healy / Paret-Peintre battle, Visma throwing everything but the kitchen sink at a tired Pogacar on the Col de la Loze, Arensman holding off a charging Vingegaard by 2 seconds and the most exciting (non TT) final stage I can remember. None of the other stages in that week was a total turkey.

Personally, I thought it was a really good edition.

Vin couldn't take the battle to Pog and nobody able to challenge Vin.
A lot of the usual suspect GC riders not present at all, or performing far worse than I expected.
A lot of big names were pretty invisible all Tour... G; Cort; Asgren etc.
No real opposition for Milan after Phillip abanadonned injured.
Too many KOM points dished out on final climbs compared to earlier ones, which was always going to threaten breakaway climbers vs the late stage Pog charges. Not helped by Lenny's sticky 8 point penalty!

But generally, the racing felt more watchable than usual as soon as itv coverage started, even boring pancke stages were spruced up by the wind.

Yes I thought the sub-plots held up well. I thought Ventoux was a really good example of the Tour working as it should, with Healy/PP as the warm up act and Jonas/Pog headlining. And Onley/Lipo bubbling along.

Green Jersey not so much

6 for me. GC was pretty clear cut early doors but there was plenty of sub plots to enjoy. Yates' stage win, Healys exploits, Arensmans double, MvDP hooning about and WVA/Final stage all were lots of fun. I was 'at' stages 7 and 8 which add some emotional attachment. Nice to see the rise of Onley which bookends the end of G from a GB perspective nicely. And, fairs to Ben O'Connor too. The host nation snuck in a top ten rider eventually too, so they must be chuffed
