Bear in mind that some passes may not be open.
It's lovely: I did it the summer before last. The Col de L'Iseran still had snow and ice in mid-June. (see pic - my bike)
Go as light weight as you can. The gradients are not extreme, but even 6 per cent gets to you after a while.
And take clothing that caters for all contingencies.

Taking a bit more gear than you did (that's light) as I'm camping I ve got 10 days to get there and back ( train back) how long did it take you . Not worried to much about snow and ice willing to push the bike .taking the galibier briancon root . Cheers

Go over the Col de Bonnette (if it's open in May). It's a fantastic climb, you'll be able to say you've ridden the highest paved road in Europe and it's virtually downhill all the way to Nice from the top!

That's the route I'm taking via col de vars.weather depending. Trying to find out how long it will take me to complete this ride .I won't be goin mad on the bike just taking it easy.cheers.
