Touring the Greek Islands

Hello everyone,

I’m starting to gather information on touring the Greek Islands, there is no end of Islands, making it difficult to plan as I’ve never been there, so thought some of you who have toured the Islands might be able to enlighten me of a good route, or a pretty Island that you have enjoyed. I will be wild camping and B&B, I am a very discreet camper and have never had a problem....what about Greece?

Never biked there, but fell in love with Kefalonia on my 1st visit and itching to go back there soon. Roads fairly quiet and fabulous scenery would make good cycling territory. Only worry I would have is what time of year, as can get very hot out there in the summer

The roads are only the second most dangerous in Europe ( Portugal is worse)

The islands however are beautiful, but not particularly good for cycling, most of the smaller ones just have central road nod that's it. So not really a place I'd bother with a bike.

For a first tour I'd start at santorini, then Naxos then Mykonos, you could add in Paros as well if you have time

Stealth camping is possible on most of the islands, but you have to pick the spot carefully

Last time I was in Greece from the 7th October for a fortnight (many years ago), they had a heatwave. A major major heatwave

Thanks for the feedback guys, have been taking a Google "map/satellite” view of the islands, some are very arid as you say, so found some green ones that look nice when I drag the man down and go up the road, looks like plenty of scope for wild camping......with some B&B chucked in for the occasional clean-up.
Going to hire a boat for a short trip, as I have a future plan to sail around the Islands, the cycle trip is what I like to do but also a reconnaissance.
Keep it coming guys....it all helps to build the picture

Crete would make for a good island to cycle on. Santorini and Naxos are close by, but Crete is a large island with plenty of good challenging tours.

Thanks guys, after looking at the islands through Google data satellite it occurred to me that that the photos may be taken after or before the rainy season? cefalonia looks very green, create very arid, is this seasonal or is this the case.
